Drag Overview

Drag turns Gmail into a shared workspace. It adds Kanban boards and lists on top of your inbox, so emails become cards you can assign, move through stages and comment on, while the messages themselves stay in Gmail. It also includes a help centre, live chat and an AI assistant called Varley.

Who Uses Drag and Why

  • Running a support queue from a shared Gmail address
  • Tracking sales leads through stages from email
  • Managing operations requests such as orders or bookings
  • Turning emails into tasks with owners and due dates
  • Adding live chat and a help centre without a separate help desk

How Teams Use Drag Day to Day

Each shared inbox becomes a board with columns such as New, In progress and Done. Team members drag email cards between columns, assign owners, add notes and set reminders. Rules automate sorting, and sequences on Plus send follow-ups. Reports show volume and response times, with history length depending on your plan.

Which Drag Plan Makes Sense?

Starter covers a shared inbox with a few rules, which suits small teams starting out. Plus is the better value if you want AI included and unlimited rules. Pro is needed for WhatsApp, the API, SLA rules and longer reports.

Designing a Useful Drag Board

Keep columns to four or five stages that mean something to the team, such as New, In progress, Waiting on customer and Done. Add a rule that moves new emails from the shared address into New and assigns them, and archive Done cards weekly so the board stays readable. Use card notes for internal discussion instead of separate chats, so context stays with the email.

Our Recommendation

Drag suits Gmail teams that like a visual board workflow. Compare Gmelius for SLA-focused shared inboxes in Gmail, or Missive for a standalone collaborative inbox.
