Elementor is the leading visual page builder plugin for WordPress, designed to give users complete design freedom. You can build custom layouts using a visual, front-end drag-and-drop editor instead of writing or editing code.
While the free version covers basic web layouts, upgrading to Elementor Pro unlocks advanced capabilities, including a custom Theme Builder for headers, footers, dynamic post templates, integrated forms, popup builders, and over 80 Pro widgets.
| Feature | Elementor (Free) | Elementor Pro |
| Visual Editor | Drag-and-Drop Editor | Drag-and-Drop Editor |
| Widgets | ~40 Basic Widgets | 85+ Advanced Pro Widgets |
| Theme Builder | Standard Header/Footer via Theme | Visual Header, Footer, & Archive Builder |
| WooCommerce Builder | Basic Product Display | Full Custom Product & Checkout Builder |
| Forms & Popups | Requires External Plugins | Built-in Form Builder & Exit-Intent Popups |
| Custom Code & CSS | Not Included | Custom CSS & Dynamic Code Injection |
Freelance designers, agencies and small businesses building WordPress sites are the core users. It is popular with people who want design control without hiring a developer for every change, and with agencies building many client sites on one licence.
You install the plugin on a WordPress site, then edit pages visually. Pro licences activate per site, so the plan you choose depends on how many sites you manage. Elementor also sells managed WordPress hosting with the builder preinstalled, which is billed separately from the plugin.
Heavy use of widgets, animations and add-on plugins can slow pages down. Use a lightweight theme, limit add-on packs, and test Core Web Vitals after each major build, especially on mobile.
If you build one or two sites, Essential or Advanced Solo is plenty. Agencies should price Expert against the number of active client sites and factor the licence into each client’s annual fee.
Starting price: Free plugin; Pro from US$59/year (Essential, 1 site). Model: Annual licence per number of sites.
Worked exampleAn agency building 20 client sites a year would need Expert at US$399 a year rather than 20 Essential licences.
