Decision checklist
An Adalo app starts with screens, collections and the relationships between records. For a booking service, separate customers, available sessions and bookings before connecting the screens. A customer should be able to find an available session, create a booking and see their own history; an administrator needs a different view for managing that work. This is a more useful first prototype than a set of attractive screens with no complete transaction behind them.
The visual canvas and managed database suit a founder who wants to keep building and updating in one environment. Ada can generate and edit an initial app from prompts, but its current beta status is a reason to inspect the resulting data model, navigation and permissions carefully. An AI-generated screen is a starting point, not confirmation that the app handles every exception.
Adalo supports web, Apple App Store and Google Play publishing from the same project. Under its documented counting rules, those destinations do not automatically mean three published apps. Separate apps connected to external databases have different counting rules, so an agency should check its actual project structure before selecting a plan.
Mobile publication still involves your own developer accounts, build configuration, testing and store listing work. Plan for maintenance after launch: changes to login, payments or an external service can affect an otherwise working application. The subscription covers the builder and its included resources, not every service you connect to it.
A hidden admin screen or filtered list does not by itself protect the underlying records. Adalo distinguishes interface visibility from collection permissions, which control what data is served to a user. For example, a customer-facing booking app needs both a list filtered to the current customer and appropriate database permissions preventing access to other customers’ records.
The documentation says ordinary collections default to broad access. Review create, view, update and delete permissions before loading real customer information. Test the application as each intended role, including a signed-out visitor, rather than checking only the builder preview as its owner.
A Custom Action calls an external API when a user interacts with the app. It requires Professional or above and works with JSON responses; supported outputs are text, numbers and dates. The documented restrictions on form submissions and subsequent screen actions can affect how you design an integration. Map the request and response before committing to a feature that depends on them.
Custom Actions are shared at team level, so changing one can affect several apps. Design versions have a separate limitation: restoring a layout does not restore collection records, permissions or database structure. Keep a deliberate data-recovery process instead of treating a visual version as a complete backup.
Compare Bubble when evaluating a different web-app workflow, and Glide when the app revolves around team data and routine operations. If handing code to a developer is central to your plan, include Lovable in the shortlist and compare the ownership and maintenance work explicitly.
Adalo pricing is easiest to assess after a working prototype exposes the number of published apps, editors and integrations you need. Start with the free test environment, identify the feature that forces an upgrade, and check that plan against the full launch workflow. Flat action pricing is useful, but it does not guarantee unlimited storage or suitability for every scale of application.
Starting price: Free to build and test; Starter US$36/month equivalent, billed annually at US$432. Model: Flat subscription by published-app, editor and storage allowance; annual and monthly billing options.
Worked exampleA solo maker publishing one booking app can budget US$432 upfront for 12 months of Starter (US$36 x 12), before store accounts, domain, tax and third-party services. If the app requires a custom API action, Professional is the relevant baseline at US$624/year, a US$192 annual increase. This is a subscription-only example, not a total launch budget.

Quoted paid rates are annual-billing equivalents, not month-to-month checkout prices. One app published to web, iOS and Android counts as one published app under the documented shared-Adalo-database rules; external-database apps are counted separately. Plans currently list unlimited app actions. Store accounts, domains, external APIs and paid components may add costs. Older help material references a Business tier; use the current pricing table rather than importing that legacy tier.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | Founders and small teams building booking, membership, directory or marketplace-style apps with a visual interface and managed database | Founders and agencies building custom portals, marketplaces or workflow apps that need a visual database and business logic | Operations teams building lightweight internal tools, directories and workflow apps from structured data | Operations teams building inventory, inspections, job tracking or approval apps around structured data, particularly in Google Workspace organisations |
| Starting price | Free to build and test; Starter US$36/month equivalent, billed annually at US$432 | Free development plan; Web Starter US$32/month or US$29/month equivalent billed annually | Free; Explorer US$19/month billed annually | Starter US$5/user/month; Core US$10/user/month; eligible Google Workspace users may already have Core |
| Free plan / trial | Free plan: unlimited test apps and screens, 500 records per app, 1 editor; no production publishing allowance | Free development version; eligible new apps can access a 14-day Starter trial subject to activation rules | Free plan for learning and small personal apps | Build and test with up to 10 users at no cost; free testing is not a general production licence |
| Biggest limitation | No editable source-code export: moving the application logic to another platform requires a rebuild rather than a simple code handoff. | Workload measures backend resources, not a predictable number of users; inefficient queries and repeated workflows can raise consumption without increasing customer value. | Usage, user and update limits make the cost less predictable as an app grows | Per-user entitlement and sync design constrain deployment: sharing with external users can require additional licences, while offline use depends on cached data and supported content types. |

Not under the documented shared-Adalo-database counting rules: the same app can use all three destinations and count as one published app. Apps using external databases are counted individually, so check the structure of multi-app projects.
The current comparison table lists zero published apps on Free. It allows unlimited test apps with 500 records per app and one editor; custom-domain and store publishing require a paid plan.
Custom Actions require Professional or above. Confirm that the API returns JSON and that its response fits the supported text, number and date/time outputs. Do not assume every API or form workflow is supported.
No. Design versions restore visual layouts and associated screen configuration, not collection data, database setup or collection permissions. A deleted collection is not recovered by restoring the design.
The official capability FAQ says editable code export is not currently available. Plan a migration as a rebuild of the app logic, rather than assuming a downloadable source project.
No. Editors are collaborators who work inside the Adalo Builder. End users and people following a test share URL are different from builder editors; published-app, storage and external-service requirements still apply.
We read pricing and plan limits from Adalo's own pages (listed above) on the dates above. Where a vendor does not publish a price we can verify, we say so rather than estimate. Spotted something out of date? Tell us.
